It had some huge flaws, mainly her insistence on changing jobs and refusal to avail herself of private assistance.  Nevertheless, the book was very popular in academic circles for reinforcing liberal beliefs about poverty.  Seems like she&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/10\/14\/nickeled-and-dimed-by-barbara-ehrenreich\/\">still at it<\/a>, ignorantly attacking recent research indicating women&#8217;s happiness is beginning to fall off.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/meganmcardle.theatlantic.com\/archives\/2009\/10\/paternalism_is_still_a_problem.php\">New Paternalism<\/a>: Old Paternalism with a little more condescension.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2009\/HEALTH\/10\/12\/soldier.lung.cancer.transplant\/index.html\">Two<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-1219853\/My-husband-beaten-cancer-doctors-wrongly-told-returned-let-die.html\">more<\/a> horror stories from the UK NHS.<\/li>\n<li>If the GOP can&#8217;t even <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/1009\/28253.html\">run a website<\/a>, how they can run the country.  Oh, yeah.<\/li>\n<li>What does Eliot Spitzers warrant a column on <a href=\"http:\/\/reason.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/15\/when-your-neighbor-loses-his-j\">Slate<\/a>?  Ignore the man&#8217;s private behavior; he&#8217;s a puritanical totalitarian twerp.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/dangerroom\/2009\/09\/the-soviets-built-a-doomsday-machine-its-still-working\/\">Fascinating stuff<\/a> on the Soviet doomsday machine.<\/li>\n<li>Another interesting article on Obama&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gq.com\/news-politics\/politics\/200911\/barack-obama-writing-books-writer-robert-draper\">love<\/a> of language, both in speeches and writing.<\/li>\n<li>Um.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5jy_z-Zo4fvJEf2TK1LCiiPIe9NDwD9BBNUJ80\">What?<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>If we cut oil consumption, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/10\/14\/business\/energy-environment\/14oil.html?_r=3&#038;ref=global-home\">Saudis<\/a> want compensation.  I knew there was a good side to this global warming stuff: it pisses off the oil sheiks something fierce.<\/li>\n<li>Looks like the school that wanted to suspend a 6-year-old over his <a href=\"http:\/\/today.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/33289924\/ns\/today-today_people\/?gt1=43001\">utensils<\/a> has come to their senses.
