{"id":817,"date":"2008-05-07T17:42:47","date_gmt":"2008-05-07T23:42:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michaelsiegel.net\/?p=817"},"modified":"2008-05-07T17:43:32","modified_gmt":"2008-05-07T23:43:32","slug":"no-cycle-for-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/michaelsiegel.net\/?p=817","title":{"rendered":"No Cycle For You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my pet peeves &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/uk_news\/education\/7380691.stm\">overprotective parents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Parents&#8217; fears about road safety are turning children into a lost generation of cyclists, says a government-backed agency that promotes cycling.<\/p>\n<p>Four out of five children are banned from cycling to school by their parents, a poll of 1,079 parents for Cycling England suggests.<\/p>\n<p>This compares with the 35% of parents who were allowed to bike to school when they were children themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Launching Bike to School Week the group said road accidents are declining.<\/p>\n<p>The survey found 81% of parents ban children from cycling independently.<\/p>\n<p>This was creating a new breed of &#8220;cul-de-sac kids&#8221; restricted to cycling only in their own road and neighbouring streets, Cycling England warned.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fat, lazy kids.
