The states splurge and splurge.  And the second the economy tumbles, they scream <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cato-at-liberty.org\/2008\/07\/24\/state-budget-crisis\/\">poverty<\/a>.  Correction.  I understand why they do it.  Why does the press not call them on it?<\/li>\n<li>Look like New Orleans is following New York&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neworleanscitybusiness.com\/viewStory.cfm?recID=31324\">bad example<\/a>.  Drumming up conviction rates by throwing minority pot smokers in prison.  Why is Barack Obama not talking about this?<\/li>\n<li>Megan McArdle defends <a href=\"http:\/\/meganmcardle.theatlantic.com\/archives\/2008\/07\/position_limits_on_oil_trading.php\">oil speculators<\/a>.  I don&#8217;t know enough to really comment but I do know that banning oil speculation crosses me as (a) impossible and; (b) a ripe target for unintended consequences.<\/li>\n<li>What a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reason.com\/blog\/show\/127734.html\">moment<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Boy, with every day that passes, Elliot Spitzer turns out to be a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2008\/07\/25\/nyregion\/25ethics.html?_r=1&#038;oref=slogin\">bigger scumbag<\/a> than we thought.<\/li>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why does this happen in every economic downturn?
