I’ve noticed CNN has run a number of articles recently about the awfulness of drug addiction. I have to wonder if this is some canned response to the growing tide against the War on Drugs.
No. CNN being in the pocket of the establishment? Say it ain’t so!
I’m sorry. Your wife cheats on you so you respond by murdering your five children? I’ve noticed a tendency in recent weeks to blame any shooting — especially last week’s Binghampton tragedy — on the economy. Garbage. These people are crazy. If it weren’t a job or a cheating wife, it would be because the TV told them to.
This story breaks your heart. A trust company that organized surrogate motherhoods has pulled a Madoff on their clients. So far, there have been no resulting abortions. But a lot of people are going to be out a lot of money over this — not to mention the emotional strain to both expectant parents and surrogate mothers.
This whole business of whether Michelle Obama touched the Queen is matter of supreme indifference to me. I don’t give a rat’s ass for monarchs and I severely doubt most of the British public cares. This is only of interest to that odd and annoying group — Royal Watchers.
TV.com’s latest makeover is even worse than the last one. The website gets less functional by the hours. Just wish I hadn’t invest so much time into improving the content.
I call BS on this story about medical students messing up intubations because they’ve watched it done incorrectly on ER. This reeks to me of excuse making. I’ve intubated dummies while helping my dad teach trauma surgeons. Doing it “hands on” while someone watches you blows away anything you would learn from watching TV.
Besides … since when do medical students have time to watch TV?
It doesn’t surprise me, however. ER is rather famous in medical circles for its inaccuracies.
On the other hand, this story hails from the socialized paradise of Canada. It wouldn’t surprise me too much if their students are getting inadequate training, given the paucity of doctors and funds. In that circumstance, it’s so much easier to just blame TV.
I can now name all 232 Baseball Hall of Famers on sporcle. It helps that I’m a baseball nut, so was able to name about 150 off the top of my head. The process is made difficult by the inclusion of Negro League players and 19th-century players — most of whom are not well-represented in baseball folklore. It’s more difficult to remember Luis Santop or John Clarkson than Babe Ruth. I’d just re-read the Negro League section of Bill James Historical Abstract, which helped. It also doesn’t help that the Veteran’s Committee got really stupid in the 1950’s and 1970’s and admitted a lot of guys who frankly don’t belong in the HOF.
Still, I got ’em all. Eventually.
I don’t know why these quizzes fascinate me, but they do.
