Time has an interesting portrait. I disagree with Krugman on a lot — to the extent that my degree in physics allows me to disagree with a man who has won the Nobel Prize in Economics. But my respect-o-meter has gone up with his relentless criticism of the Obama Administration. He may be wrong, but he’s no hack.

The problem with Krugman is that he’s bashing Obama for the wrong reasons. He wants more government involvement, and is a big fan of Keynes, which is what has been driving this massive debt machine in a snowball effect for decades.
I wonder if a right thinking economist would have won the Nobel Prize if they were a paid advisor to Enron. I don’t put much stock in the Nobel anymore, as it seems to just be a club for left leaning individuals to pat themselves on the back for how smart they are. It’s about as worthless and empty as the US dollar.
Krugman probably did win the Nobel because he was a critic of Bush. However, there’s not much question that he deserved it for his decades-long work on trade. Even right-wingers who disagree with him acknowledged that.
As I said, I think he’s wrong. But he’s consistent in pushing his Keynsian views, which is more than you can say about many “small government” conservatives.
I’m not going to deny the Krugman is a smart man, I just don’t think a free market type would ever win that award if they had any links to Enron. I could be wrong. As far as defending the GOP type conservatives these days, well I can’t find any reason to do so.
